Coach Smith joined the George Mason University Football staff in 2004 as the Assistant Offensive Line Coach. After one year of service he moved to the other side of the ball as the Recruiting Coordinator/Defensive Line Coach. In 2007 Coach Smith assumed the responsibilities of Assistant Defensive Coordinator in addition to the Defensive Line. Currently, he is serving as the Associate Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator. During his tenure at George Mason, Coach Smith has been a part of two Seaboard Conference Championships. He has also guided two players to All Conference Honors.
Prior to arriving at George Mason, Coach Smith taught Social Studies at McDonough High School. He started his coaching career in 1999 as the JV Defensive Coordinator for the McDonough Rams. In 2000, he was promoted to the JV Head Coaching position. From 2001 to 2003, Coach Smith taught Social Studies and Physical Education at John Hanson Middle School. During this time he served as the scouting coordinator for the McDonough Rams football team.
Coach Smith is from Coatesville, Pennsylvania where he was a four year starter at offensive tackle for the Coatesville Red Raiders. Upon Graduation at Coatesville, he went on to Millersville University and earned a B.S. in Education with a minor in Athletic Coaching. While he was teaching and coaching, Coach Smith completed his M.S.S. in Sport Management from the United States Sports Academy.
Coach Smith currently resides in Arlington, Virginia where he is employed at Northern Virginia Community College working in the College Financial Aid Office. He is currently pursuing his Doctorate in Educational Leadership with a Higher Education concentration from Argosy University.s Washington DC campus.
