| Gilles Colon joins the George Mason Patriots in his first season as a coach. Gilles played pro-football in the Canadian Football League for 3 years before his career was cut short due to a long-standing injury. He spent 2 years with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and one year with the B.C. Lions where he won a Grey Cup Championship. As a player, Gilles was part of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and credits his skills and success to His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Gilles grew up in the Fairfax , VA area and attended Bethlehem Baptist Christian Academy . Though the school was too small for a football team, he played basketball and soccer all through High School, with hopes to play basketball in college. Upon arriving at Bishop’s University, he walked on to the football team, putting on pads for the first time. Gilles fell in love with football and made the decision to leave basketball behind and pursue a new dream.
He was signed as a free agent in 2004 by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, and became a starter for them in ’05 at receiver and kick returner. He signed with B.C. in 2006 and played his last season with the Lions. Gilles is excited about the opportunity to teach the game at the collegiate level. And brings a passion that he hopes will help raise up a new level of athletes, players and men!
