George Mason Football wraps up its 2009 Season

The George Mason Patriots football team wrapped up its 2009 season Saturday, Nov. 14 losing a hard fought battle with Williamson Trade School by a score of 34-21 in Media Pa.

The game marked the end of the 2009 season that saw the Patriots gridiron squad go 1 and 7 on the year. Despite a constant battle with injuries and manpower the Patriots were able the wrap up the season with a true display of determination and heart.

In a game that began with Williamson jumping out to a quick lead, the Patriot squad managed to convert two scores in the second half that brought them within one score of the opponents. However, fate would have it that the day would go to the home team.

The contest ended with heads held high and the squad of 21 Mason players kept the game within reach and walk off the field knowing they had given their all in the final contest of the year. Players and coaches alike were struck with the bittersweet ending of the 2009 campaign. A season that say the GMU football squad experience some adversity and untimely injuries, still carried the sense of pride and accomplishment that comes with competitive athletics.

At the end of the day, the team and coaches spent some time on the field as a group to reflect on all this years has brought their way. Head Coach, Matt Dyson reminded them of all they had overcome to get to this point. While the scoreboard touted victory for the opponent, the true measure of competitive spirit was seen in their individual and collective effort on the field.

The George Mason Football program has already began to prepare for next year with a collective goal of raising the competitive level of the George Mason football program.

The players and coaches of the GMU football program would like to take this time to say thank you to the parents, family, friends and student body who have stood behind them this season. It is your support and encouragement that is the impetus of our effort. The team would also like to thank the athletic dept for their support this season as well.
